Environ minister mourns Quamrul Islam Chowdhury’s death

 

 

Quamrul Islam Chowdhury, former general secretary of the Jatiya Press Club and former chairman of Forum of Environmental Journalists of Bangladesh (FEJB) passed away on Tuesday night at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU).

Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change Md. Shahab Uddin, Deputy Minister Habibun Nahar, Secretary Dr. Farhina Ahmed and additional Secretary (Environment and Climate Change) Sanjay Kumar Bhowmik has expressed deep grief over the death of Quamrul Islam Chowdhury.

Quamrul Islam Chowdhury was also former News Editor of Bangladesh Sangbad Agency .

He has played a significant role in creating public awareness for the development and protection of the environment through responsible journalism.  He participated in various government programs on environment and climate issues organized by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change and various departments and organizations under it and provided valuable advice.

In addition, he used to attend international conferences on climate issues in different countries of the world and express his opinion on what to do to combat climate change in Bangladesh.  His death is an irreparable loss to environmental journalism.

The Minister, Deputy Minister, Secretary and Additional Secretary (Environment and Climate Change) of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change prayed for the repose of the soul of the deceased and expressed their deepest condolences to the bereaved family members.

Journalist Quamrul Islam Chowdhury (63) was survived by his wife, a daughter and a son and many well-wishers.
